WEBINAR: A Conversation with State Medicaid Officials on Adult Dental Coverage

With support from the DentaQuest Foundation, National Academy of State Health Policy (NASHP) will be holding a webinar on adult dental coverage next Friday, July 10th, 1-2PM EST. Oral health is an important part of overall health, however, access to dental coverage for low-income adults remains a challenge, particularly since these benefits are optional for state Medicaid programs. In this webinar, Medicaid officials from Colorado, Iowa, and Washington—three states that have recently taken action on their adult dental benefits—will share insights on important factors in the decision to add, reinstate, or introduce adult dental benefits; how adult dental benefits fits into the larger health reform discussion in each state; successes and challenges each state has faced since implementation; and future policy considerations. Oral Health for Older Adults in Palliative Care & Long-Term Settings Webinar

Older adults residing in institutional settings have unique oral care needs. Often facing multiple chronic conditions, limited access to dental care, and self-care deficits, these seniors are especially vulnerable to sub-optimal oral hygiene and oral/dental complications. NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders), the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing (HIGN), and the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice (OHNEP) webinar will focus on the role of the interprofessional team and nursing in the oral care of elders in long term care settings. Emphasis will be placed on the palliative oral care issues of those with multiple medical co-morbidities or serious advanced illness.
