This November is National Diabetes Month. According to the American Diabetes Foundation, about 26 million Americans have diabetes, and another 79 million are at risk for developing the disease. It is estimated that, nationally, the total cost of diagnosed diabetes is $245 million.
Individuals with diabetes can experience many serious complications, including increased risk of gum disease. Maintaining good oral health is essential for individuals with diabetes in order to prevent gum infections.
The U.S Department of Health & Human Services observes National Diabetes Month every November “so individuals, health care professionals, organizations, and communities across the country can bring attention to diabetes and its impact on millions of Americans.”
