Still working at age 89, Will Moore brings passion and enthusiasm to his job every day working as the elevator operator at the Chicago office building in which Oral Health America is housed. Will has had a tremendous impact on others during his career, including the many tenants who greet him each morning in passing.
Steven Gabriel, our WTP Summer Intern had the chance to interview Will by asking him a few questions:
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Taking care of the people! I’ve been at this job for 30 years and I enjoy being able to take care of the people and the building.
What keeps you young?
The good Lord, He takes care of me…and talking to the people, they’re what keep me young.
What age has been the best age in your life?
When I was younger I did a lot of traveling. I’ve been all over — from Canada to Hawaii. I’ve been to Waikiki Beach 8 times!
Where have your world travels brought you?
Well, I was born in Hughes, Alabama but I’ve lived in Indiana, Kansas City, Missouri, and Boca Raton, Florida with my wife.
Do you have any advice for seniors looking to stay active?
You know, a lot of people want to retire early and sleep all day, but that’s not me. My advice is stop eating so much fatty food, don’t drink alcohol, and definitely no smoking.
Where was your favorite place to live?
Must be Chicago, I’ve been here for 67 years!
Whether to welcome you with a smile, wish you a good morning, or hold the elevator door for you, Will’s service to others and infectious positivity are what make him truly sensational.
